The reverse features the Mitsuba Aoi, the iconic three-leaf hollyhock crest of the Tokugawa clan.

After his decisive victory at the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600—widely regarded as the largest and most decisive samurai battle in Japanese history—Tokugawa Ieyasu unified Japan under his leadership. In 1603, he was appointed Shōgun, establishing the Tokugawa Shogunate, which ruled Japan for more than 260 years.

The crest was chosen intentionally. It represents discipline, patience, resilience, and the leadership that shaped an era.

The samurai skull on the obverse symbolizes the warrior spirit—a reminder that true strength is not measured by the battles you fight, but by the person you remain despite them.

The Shōgun Collaboration

The Shōgun Collaboration brought together four makers, each contributing a different part of the final release.

• CronicMajorr88 conceived the original idea and creative direction for the collaboration.
• Limitless Engraver transformed that vision into a deeply engraved solid brass coin, handling the 3D relief development, engraving, antiquing, polishing, and final finishing.
• Patchlab designed and produced the custom patch that accompanies the release.
• HoosierHanks handcrafted the premium hank, completing the collaboration set.

From the very beginning, every element was carefully discussed, refined, and perfected. We spent countless hours adjusting the artwork, relief depth, textures, borders, and finishing to create a collection that every collaborator could be proud of.

The coin itself is anything but ordinary. Rather than being cast or stamped, each side is individually deep engraved into solid brass. The incredible level of relief and detail requires approximately 6 hours of engraving per side—around 24 hours of machine engraving for every coin—before hand finishing, antiquing, polishing, cleaning, and final inspection even begin.
